Product Definition DMAC, the full name of N,N-dimethylacetamide, is a colorless and transparent polar aprotic organic solvent with a faint ammonia smell at room temperature. Infinitely miscible with water, alcohol, ether and aromatic hydrocarbons ; It has excellent normal chemical stability and is only hydrolyzed in strong acid and alkali environments. It has outstanding dissolving ability for various engineering resins and synthetic fibers, and has dual properties of solvent and organic synthesis catalysis. 2. Production process There are three types of domestic industrialized mass production routes: Acetic anhydride method, acetyl chloride method, acetic acid method (catalytic + non-catalytic subdivision). 1. Acetic anhydride method: The early mainstream process, acetic anhydride + dimethylamine acylation, is simple to refine, but the cost of raw materials is high and the by-product sodium acetate is large in solid waste. New projects are basically eliminated. ; 2. Acetyl chloride method: The raw materials are extremely corrosive, environmental restrictions are strict, and industrial applications are rare. ; 3. Acetic acid method Catalytic acetic acid method: Acetic acid is combined with dimethylamine and condensed using molybdenum and tungsten catalysts. Hazardous catalyst waste increases production costs. ; Non-catalytic acetic acid method (selected for Ruibai expansion project): Without an external catalyst, acetic acid and dimethylamine are thermally condensed at high temperature to generate DMAC and process water, followed by light removal, distillation, and raw material recovery. It has less three wastes and low construction investment. It is the preferred green process for new projects in recent years. 3. Market Application 1. Pharmaceutical field: Special reaction solvent for the synthesis of antibiotics, anti-tumor APIs, and photochromic agents, used for crystallization and purification of APIs ; 2. Chemical fiber industry: Aramid and PAN raw yarn spinning solvent, C8 fraction extraction and separation of styrene special extraction agent ; 3. Coating polymer: PI polyimide film, special anti-corrosion insulating coating dissolving aid ; 4. Petrochemical industry: Catalysts for cyclization, halogenation, alkylation, and dehydrogenation reactions to optimize reaction conversion rates ; 5. New energy and new materials: Lithium battery PVDF binder, flexible PI substrate, photoresist stripper supporting solvent. 4. Market supply and demand and product profits 1. Domestic mass production capacity is concentrated in Shandong, Henan, Hubei, and Jiangxi. New production capacity in the old production areas in East China is restricted by environmental protection controls, and production capacity continues to be transferred to the coal chemical raw materials areas in the central and western regions. ; On the demand side, the localization of pharmaceuticals, the development of lithium batteries and high-end chemical fibers have steadily driven up the demand for DMAC. 2. Production costs mainly rely on the two major coal chemical raw materials, acetic acid and dimethylamine, and product selling prices fluctuate with the cycles of crude oil and upstream chemical raw materials. ; Integrated factories equipped with their own raw materials have better cost risk resistance than small and medium-sized manufacturers of purchased raw materials, and there are obvious gradations in the added value of products of different grades (industrial grade/electronic pharmaceutical grade). 5. Main manufacturers and production capacity. As of 2025, there are approximately 7 compliant companies in production in China, with a total production capacity of 290,000 tons/year.: 1. Zhangqiu Sun and Moon (60,000 tons/year) ; 2. Henan Junhua (50,000 tons/year) ; 3. Henan Ruibai (currently 50,000 tons/year, with a total capacity of 100,000 tons/year after expansion) ; 4. Tokuda Chemical (40,000 tons/year) ; 5. Hubei Gann (40,000 tons/year) ; 6. Jiangxi Heart to Heart (30,000 tons/year) ; 7. Anyang Jiutian (20,000 tons/year). 6. Industry development trends 1. Continuous optimization of processes: Non-catalytic acetic acid technology continues to replace the old production capacity of high-solid waste acetic anhydride, and environmental protection policies accelerate the elimination of backward intermittent devices ; 2. High-end products: The localization of pharmaceuticals and lithium batteries drives demand for high-purity electronic-grade DMAC, and new production lines are simultaneously equipped with high-precision distillation devices. ; 3. Production capacity location transfer: Relying on the advantages of coal-based raw materials in the central and western regions, Shandong, Henan, Hubei and Jiangxi continue to undertake industry expansion projects
