Displacement and vibration sensors as well as preamplifiers are all universal; the difference lies in the software configuration. Radial vibration is measured in terms of peak-to-peak value, while axial displacement is measured in terms of voltage value.

The vibration sensor can also detect -10 DC; when the shaft is at rest, a voltage of -8 to -10 VDC corresponds to a gap of approximately 55 mils. This is the position where the vibration probe should be installed. There is no protection at these voltage levels either, and the requirement for -10 VDC is mainly to ensure that the probe operates at the midpoint of its linear range.
