I encountered a problem when selecting a pressure gauge: the sensing element of a stainless steel diaphragm pressure gauge should be a diaphragm, right? I saw some people specify a Bourdon tube as the sensing element. Could someone please explain this in detail?

That’s right. The measuring element of a diaphragm pressure gauge can be a Bourdon tube. Actually, there is a bit of confusion here: a diaphragm pressure gauge originally refers to a pressure gauge that uses a diaphragm (or diaphragm box) as its measuring element. Through the displacement of the diaphragm, the pointer is rotated via a transmission mechanism to provide indication. A diaphragm pressure gauge uses a diaphragm to isolate the medium, and transmits pressure to a conventional pressure gauge through a pressure-transmitting fluid. Now that membrane pressure gauges in their traditional form are hardly produced any more, there is little attention paid to their naming. There’s no need to overthink it; it’s enough to know that there are these two types, but most people nowadays are referring to just one of them. The diagram below shows a diaphragm (diaphragm box) that is used in pressure gauges; however, its specific name is “height gauge”.
Diaphragm types are usually used in applications where clogging is a concern and high corrosion resistance is required; ordinary spring tube types are used for regular liquids and gases. The choice is primarily based on the properties of the medium. Only suitable, nothing is perfect.
