What type of level gauge should be used for a 7.5m styrene storage tank? I’ve heard that styrene can cause clogging in magnetic flap level gauges.
Radar, plug-in double flanges, or ultrasonic
Can the float level transmitter inserted from above be used?
How great would it be to have double flanges; if not, one could simply use a magnetic level gauge on site
We all use differential pressure types; additionally, float, radar, and ultrasonic types can also be used.

Float level transmitters are not very reliable, as the absence of movement for an extended period can cause polymers to affect the sensitivity of the float, making them unreliable. For low-end applications, double-flange transmitters can be used, but it’s not clear whether the density of this medium changes with temperature; otherwise, the measurement accuracy will be poor. Double flanges need to be temperature-treated, meaning they should be at the same temperature as the medium inside the tank. For high-end applications, contactless radar level gauges and ultrasonic level gauges can be used, and their prices are not very high either. However, whether it is radar or ultrasonic systems, an extended antenna is required, that is, the antenna needs to be placed as far inward as possible away from the tank walls. Although the tank walls are insulated, there is still a temperature difference with the medium, which can lead to aggregation. When installing short pipes, insulation measures also need to be considered. There is an even better option: a servo level gauge. I don’t know much about the storage of styrene; it would be good to have information on the operating temperature and pressure required for storage. Hope this helps!
The tank temperature is below 20 degrees, and the pressure is 0.0017 MPa; nitrogen is used for sealing. Can a regular pressure transmitter be used to measure the pressure of the gas in the upper part? And what type of flow meter should be used for flow measurement in styrene pipelines?
The top of the storage tank can be measured using a regular pressure transmitter, but an absolute pressure gauge is required, as negative pressure may occur if the nitrogen seal fails properly during material feeding. For such storage tanks, the process requirements generally only specify the need for a nitrogen seal and a slight positive pressure; there is no need to use high-precision pressure transmitters. As for the flow meters on the pipelines, they are used either for feeding into the storage tank or for measuring within the storage tank. A mass flow meter should be used, and the flow meter should be equipped with temperature tracing just like the pipeline; the flow meter transmitter and cables should be of the high-temperature type. If high-precision trade grade is used directly for warehousing measurement, or a comparison with truck scales should be considered. For internal calculations within the device, conventional precision is sufficient.
