Emerson mass flow meter

When an Emerson mass flow meter is used to measure the flow rate in a tank truck, fluid is pumped through it and the meter is located downstream of the pump; even when the pump stops, the meter still indicates that flow is occurring. Additionally, during the pumping process, the meter’s reading fluctuates between -1000KG and 1000KG. The installation direction is fine. What could be the possible reasons? How to handle it to restore it to normal?

Personally, I think there are two aspects to check: 1. Mechanical vibration: The principle of a mass flow meter is based on measuring the vibration of the tube; if it is installed too close to moving equipment such as pumps, it may be affected by external mechanical vibrations, resulting in inaccurate measurements； 2. Vaporization of the medium or discontinuity in the liquid flow in the pipeline leads to inaccurate measurements
Mass flow meters have high requirements regarding grounding and pipeline vibration. If vibration is a concern, it is recommended to install weights at both the front and rear ends of the flow meter or take other measures. If possible, circulate the material once before filling to calibrate the flow meter’s zero point.
