Hello everyone. Due to renovations on site, some additional instrument points have been added (all of them are DCS points). The DCS cabinet needs to be expanded, and it is also necessary to configure these new instrument points. Is it possible to configure these additional points while the entire system is in operation?
Yes, for compilation and download, only the changes should be applied
Need to expand the cabinet? If you want to add cards or similar items, it cannot be done online. If spare points are to be used in an existing system without being involved in the interlock logic of that system, a DCS can generally be configured and installed online, but the number of points should not be too large.
Without adding hardware, online updates and downloads are generally no problem
The answers given by everyone are a bit arbitrary. When it comes to operating systems, adding so many additional points isn’t something that can be generalized; it depends on which system is being used – whether it’s a domestic or imported one, as there are differences in reliability between them. Additionally, it depends on how many additional points need to be added. Since cabinets are to be added, there will likely be quite a number of points, and whether controllers need to be added as well varies from case to case. It cannot be asserted with certainty that there are no problems. After all, it’s a operating system; any problems that arise can be serious, especially when there are overlaps in the internal connections and interlocks.
