Our company’s DCS uses Emerson’s DeltaV system, and it has been in use for three years now. Currently, the response time of the various operation stations seems to be slow. I’m not sure if this is due to too much junk data on the computers; if so, how can it be cleaned up? I would appreciate some advice from those who know more about this. Thank you! ! !
The hardware must be aging. Alternatively, shut down the computer, clean off the dust, and the operator can try defragmenting it. Just my personal opinion.
Does anyone who is an expert at DeltaV have any advice? Is it necessary to clean up system clutter (in terms of software), and if so, how should it be done?
The following recommendations are given: 1. Since a workstation operates for long periods of time, its performance declines; it is recommended to upgrade the system. 2. Over time, a lot of fragmentation occurs in the database, so use database management tools to clean it (CLEAN DATABASE, EXTENDED CLEAN DATABASE). 3. Upgrade the switches in the control network
The control station we use has the same problem; we’ve performed PCinstall several times, but it hasn’t had much effect, and there’s no junk that needs to be cleaned up. The manufacturer’s recommendation is to upgrade the system and replace the equipment. But it requires a significant amount of investment. There’s no good solution at the moment; just restart it when it freezes. . . .

Over the course of three years, the usage time is not long. You can start by cleaning the computer, and then you can look at the reports generated by the system and decide whether to delete them. Slow response can be due to issues with the computer itself, a decline in the processing performance of the main controller, or problems with communication – these aspects should also be checked. The 1 workstation has been in use for a long time, its performance has declined; therefore, the hardware of the operation station needs to be upgraded. 2. The operator opens too many applications, resulting in numerous programs running in the background and high CPU and memory usage; therefore, the operation station is restarted at regular intervals. There are too many measurement points in a single screen, which causes lag when switching screens; the screen needs to be optimized.
