The drum level gauge in our company is a single-chamber balanced container; in my opinion, the pressure guide tube on the water side is installed incorrectly – it should be connected below the pressure guide tube on the steam side of the drum. Regarding the previous diagram, I would appreciate some guidance from experts; also, how should a single-chamber balanced container be connected to a transmitter? Is the steam side connected to positive pressure and the water side to negative pressure?
The negative pressure side of the transmitter is connected to the vapor phase, while the positive pressure side is connected to the liquid phase; negative migration must occur.
Does negative migration refer to -300-300 or -600-0? Which interpretation is correct?
I saw in the book that it should be connected this way: negative on the water side and positive on the steam side. When I consulted the manufacturer, they said that negative should be connected to the steam side and positive to the water side. This really changed my perspective. I’m a beginner – what criteria should be used to determine which side should be connected to positive or negative?

This installation should be problem-free; it depends on the height of the component rather than the length of the pressure intake pipe, with positive pressure connected to the water side and negative pressure connected to the steam side. During normal operation, both the positive and negative pressure tap pipes are filled with condensate. The gauge should shift negatively.

Let me explain: Whether to perform a positive migration or a negative migration depends on the type of two-chamber balance vessel used by your company. There are two types that are commonly used nowadays; please refer to the diagram. If you are using the first type, then a 100% migration is undoubtedly necessary. If you are using the second method, then no migration is necessary; you just need to use the handheld controller to set the upper and lower limits of the transmitter in reverse order. For example, if the pressure generated by the liquid level is 5 KPA, set the upper limit to 0 KPA and the lower limit to 5 KPA. To determine exactly which setting your company uses, the only way is to try it out: drain all the water from the steam drum, fill the side that needs to be filled with water, tighten the bolts, and then install the transmitter. Use the handheld controller to check the reading at this point; if it shows negative pressure, then negative migration is required, while if it shows positive pressure, the upper and lower limits should be set in reverse order. The ways of applying positive and negative pressures are as follows: the first method is to apply positive pressure to the liquid phase and negative pressure to the gas phase; the second method is to apply negative pressure to the liquid phase and positive pressure to the gas phase. They are exactly opposite to each other, so there’s no need to worry about it
