There is a horizontal oil tank that is 2.8 meters high. When using a Kollmorgen radar for level measurement during oil transfer, the level drops to 0.7 meters at which point it starts to fluctuate erratically, sometimes rising and sometimes falling. Once the level exceeds 0.7 meters, the reading becomes normal. I’m wondering if anyone can help solve this issue.
Is it a conventional radar or a guided wave radar? It would be best to include a diagram of the installation, as it helps in analyzing the reasons.
Fluctuations caused by interference are very common. It is recommended to try suppression to see the effect
There are pipeline inlets and outlets at 0.7 meters. Metals such as bimetallics, thermocouple sheaths, coils, mixers, or those with irregular pipe wall shapes cause multiple refractions of radar waves, resulting in inaccurate liquid level readings. It is possible to examine the empty spectrum by creating one at a height of 0.7 meters and filtering out the spectrum from that area in order to observe the effect.
Replacing or adding other level gauges is the fundamental solution
Is it a contact radar level gauge or a non-contact one?
Is it radar, ultrasound, or a director’s radar?
1. Guided radar level gauge; 2. No foreign objects at 0.7m; 3. The same model of guided radar level gauge is used in the same oil tank, with no similar issues
An oil tank with a 2.8-meter measurement range could consider being replaced with a magnetostrictive level gauge
