When measuring the pressure of liquid nitrogen in a pipeline in the laboratory, is it necessary to locate the pressure measurement point below the pipeline?
In normal factories, it’s at a 45° angle on the side, but that’s to prevent impurities and such; laboratory conditions are supposed to be very clean, so it shouldn’t make much of a difference below, but it’s still best to follow the standards

Liquid nitrogen is a cryogenic liquid and a clean medium; pressure gauges are designed to measure gas pressure only. Therefore, it doesn’t matter in which direction the pressure measurement point is located (although it’s better to place it at the top). However, the height above the pipeline’s center line must be sufficient to ensure that the liquid nitrogen vaporizes fully, otherwise the pressure gauge will be damaged. Before connecting the pressure gauge, install a valve made of stainless steel with PTFE packing; close this valve before starting the measurement, and open it once the pipeline reaches near room temperature to take the pressure reading. .
