The flow rate resulting from the gravity of the concentrated sulfuric acid itself in the tank isn’t very high. We currently have two spare flowmeters: one with a DN40 flanged tantalum electrode (this one can be used, but there’s concern that the flow rate might be too low to allow for accurate measurements), and the other with a DN25 flanged 316L electrode. I would like to ask whether the 316L electrode can be used in conditions involving concentrated sulfuric acid at room temperature The flow rate is approximately 0.5–1 m3/h
Can a 316L electrode be used in concentrated sulfuric acid at room temperature? The electrode material grade is low, although the process pipes are also 316. When selecting a material, stainless steel is not recommended for concentrated sulfuric acid at room temperature; platinum is the best choice. Tantalum is not suitable for use with fuming sulfuric acid; however, there are reports indicating that it can be used with ordinary concentrated sulfuric acid.
I agree with the view from the second floor – 316L electrodes definitely won’t work. Our company uses tantalum electrodes for concentrated sulfuric acid; however, the flow rate should not be less than 0.3 m/s
The 316L electrode is not suitable; don’t waste the flow meter – change the diameter and select an appropriate electrode material
H-C is used for concentrated sulfuric acid electrodes, tantalum for hydrochloric acid, and H-B for dilute sulfuric acid
Choose DN10 or DN15; do not select 316 material, and tantalum electrodes don’t cost much more.
