There is a project in which dichloroethane is stored in the warehouse. I would like to ask whether it is necessary to install toxic gas detectors or flammable gas detectors?
GBT 50493-2019, the Design Standard for Detection and Alarm of Flammable and Toxic Gases in Petrochemical Industries, lists dichloroethane in Appendix A, which refers to flammable gases. However, under Provision 3 (Basic Provisions): single-component gas media that are both flammable gases and toxic gases shall be equipped with toxic gas detectors. Dichloroethane is toxic and potentially carcinogenic. Based on the above, I personally think toxic gas detectors should be installed.

The product manual states that it is used in flammable gases. But in my opinion, whether it’s a flammable gas or a toxic gas, as long as the concentration can be measured, that’s what matters, right?
GB50493-2019 specifies that for gases which are both flammable and toxic, the calculations shall be carried out using the thresholds applicable to toxic gases.
If used for flammable gas detection, the concentration would be extremely high.
But the product is not available; for example, manufacturers like Te’an do not have this model in toxic versions
For industrial buildings, especially warehouses, special attention must be paid to the fire hazards associated with storage. Please refer to GB50016-2014 (2018 edition); dichloroethane definitely belongs to the category of materials with high fire hazard. How can we not install a fire alarm system and a combustible gas warning system in such a case?
