The control valve positioner has frozen – what could be the reason?
Can a locator also get damaged by freezing? There must be water in the air supply; check whether there is water in the filter regulator. If there is water in the instrument air, then it’s not just the locator that’s faulty – the entire plant needs to be inspected, and the issue must be addressed at its source by checking the air compressor.
Confirm it was damaged by freezing? Check whether water or steam has entered the locator? Or check whether the instrument air supply is qualified

Smart locator or mechanical locator? I think the most likely possibility is that there is water in the gas supply
There is a high possibility of water in the gas supply, especially in companies that do not control the dew point of the gas used in instruments. It is recommended to focus on the gas used for the instrument, and to check its dew point, assuming that external water ingress is not the cause. The dew point of the pressure in the air source of the gas supply system (under online operation) should be at least 10°C lower than the lowest annual (seasonal) extreme temperature in the operating environment or in the region over historical records. Everyone reached the same conclusion: there is water in the gas supply, so looking for the problem in the gas source is the right approach.
