Instruments: Can the three categories of field instruments/control instruments/analytical instruments be assigned to different departments?
Division of labor is intended to clarify responsibilities more clearly. If a company has sufficient instrument management personnel who are highly skilled and professional, and if high standards are required in terms of research and problem-solving, it is possible to consider further dividing up the specialized tasks
These three concepts of instruments overlap with each other; they don’t fall under the same classification criteria. Therefore, determining how to classify them becomes an issue. If it’s an internal management matter, then classify everything at once; it won’t be a problem to determine who each item belongs to.
If we have to point out the differences, analytical instruments vary significantly from others, but what is the essential difference between field instruments and control instruments? From a production management perspective, forcing a separation only wastes human and material resources.
Some large enterprises divide analytical instruments, control systems, field instruments, and valves into different teams for maintenance, but few divide them among multiple departments. Moreover, overly fine segmentation results in low staff utilization, with some people busy while others are idle, making management difficult. But the advantage is that the maintenance staff are more professional and have a deeper understanding.
We didn’t distinguish before, but the work was separated. Special personnel are assigned to inspect and maintain analytical instruments as well as control instruments. The main concern is that new employees might make mistakes that lead to serious consequences.
It’s possible, if your factory is particularly large. But in most cases, there are three sections within the instrumentation workshop, and these sections are interconnected; generally, there are fewer people working in the areas related to analysis and automatic control
The on-site system and the digital system can be integrated directly, but it’s better to have separate personnel in charge of the analysis; after all, the difference between them isn’t that significant
