I’d like to ask the experts here: is it that difficult to succeed in the field of instrumentation? It’s so disheartening; how can one still buy a house in Chengdu?

That means it’s already not low. If you want a high salary, go to an engineering design firm or work on projects on your own.
13,000 in ten years is already the average level. It’s more or less the same even in the process engineering field. There are indeed high incomes as well. Different platforms have different capabilities.

I’m afraid they must have other sources of income; otherwise, they might have just started working at the company and are still getting to know the business.
13K is a decent salary in Chengdu. As for higher salaries, it depends on the industry; generally, in well-performing chemical factories, the salary ranges from 20 to 25K, and it might be even higher in foreign-funded companies
It’s okay to muddle along at the company, but don’t let that ruin your life
