Hello everyone, I have a question. I recently purchased a toxic gas detector from a certain manufacturer; when I used a multimeter to check the continuity, it was found that the 24V GND terminal of the device was connected to its housing. The explosion-proof type of this detector is intrinsically safe or flameproof. But as a result, the 24V negative terminal of our device’s entire control system is connected to ground. Will this work? If other 220V components in our equipment leak electricity, won’t that cause a fire? ? It has never been powered on before; this issue was discovered during the checks prior to powering it on. The combustible gas detector of this product is not designed in this way (explosion-proof type).
This shouldn’t happen. Normally, the 24V GND of a gas detector should not be directly connected to its housing, as this could lead to grounding issues and electrical safety hazards throughout the entire system—especially when there are other high-voltage components within the device. It is recommended to contact the manufacturer of the gas detector to determine whether there are any design or installation issues, and to ask them for the correct wiring methods and safety measures. At the same time, it is also possible to check for any errors in the wiring to ensure that all connections comply with electrical safety standards. .

All the units purchased were of this type, and this behavior was observed even without any wires connected – it is an intrinsically safe, explosion-proof device ； But their combustible gas detectors are flameproof, so that’s not the case. The manufacturer says there is no problem with their design, but we are still concerned because it needs to be connected to the PLC of our entire system, which contains 220V electrical equipment. The manufacturer finally asked us to adjust the orientation of a pin module inside the detector, and then it stopped working. Only then are we comfortable turning on the power.
