As the title suggests: In a power plant control system, are DEH and ETS separate or integrated? What system is generally used for this, and are there any special requirements for the hardware?
DCS refers to the thermal automation control system, which includes DEH and ETS. DEH is the turbine excitation system, further divided into MEH for large turbines and MEH for small turbines, while ETS is the turbine protection system (also known as the turbine emergency shutdown protection system)
The so-called Emergency Stop System for turbines, ETS, is a protection system that rapidly closes the turbine’s inlet valves and cuts off all supply of steam to the turbine whenever conditions or parameters that threaten its safe operation arise. The ETS system can effectively prevent damage to the unit equipment or stop the further escalation of accidents. It has complete interfaces with the DEH system, TSI system, as well as other systems in the power plant such as the turbines, boilers, and generators. Broadly speaking, it includes all protection systems such as mechanical emergency shutdown systems, thermal monitoring and protection systems, as well as field sensors and actuators related to protection. In a narrow sense, it refers only to thermal and electrical protection devices as well as their electrical sensing and actuating elements.
