At a pipeline design firm, the company couldn’t find anyone qualified for automation work, so they assigned this task to me, a newcomer. An explosion occurred right after I started working; I’ve been so scared these past days. I have a question: do problems usually arise with self-control design? If so, in which areas is the likelihood of problems high?
What’s there to be afraid of? The leading disciplines that set the design requirements (process engineering, storage and transportation) aren’t afraid of anything; so what’s there to fear about the supporting disciplines that accept those requirements? As long as the design is carried out carefully in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, standards, and specifications, there is nothing to fear.
Afraid of going to jail... The company handles these tasks through external parties, and there’s no one within the company who understands how to handle them
Firstly, it is recommended that your management increase recruitment salaries to hire qualified control design engineers. In the short term, it is recommended to use outsourcing, by engaging external designers and expert reviewers. Regarding the safety concerns you are worried about, they do exist. There are too many details to take into account when it comes to self-control, and it’s not possible to ensure perfection just by relying on regulations; it requires years of experience in design, as well as guidance from reviewers or experienced professionals. If you choose the wrong model or material for a critical component, especially one that is exposed to high temperatures and pressures, it can lead to serious problems.

One can only say that different fields are as separate as mountains. It’s the same for students from different majors. The less I understand, the more I think there’s no problem. The more I work, the more I feel like I don’t know anything, that I’m ignorant of everything. Get rid of the pot as soon as possible.
High temperature. For high pressure and highly corrosive environments, special attention is needed; in other normal operating conditions, even if problems arise, they won’t be serious
It must meet the requirements of **standards and specifications**.
It is recommended not to do it. Although it is said to be based on standards, since you are transitioning from an outside field, how can one determine whether those standards are met? If it doesn’t meet the requirements, how can it be adjusted to meet them? There is a high risk in a short period of time
This is the perfect time to think deeply; it is the best period for developing one’s thinking skills
There won’t be any major problems, but the minor issues that arise during operation are often related to the design.
