Question: There is a radar level gauge, and the display on it is very stable; there are no fluctuations in the actual liquid level inside the tank as well. The tank is 25 meters tall, but the radar display showed 18.90 meters continuously. However, the liquid level display in the DCS control room is unstable, fluctuating constantly, with values reaching as high as 19.20 meters and as low as 18.70 meters. This phenomenon is likely due to a problem with the long-distance transmission part of the radar, but it’s not clear how to address it (it has been confirmed that there are no issues with the wiring and power supply inside the control room). I would appreciate it if experts could offer some guidance. Thank you everyone!
Is there interference? Check the grounding, and also check the channel. It’s possible that the radar transmitter output module is the problem; if there are spare parts available, try replacing it

If there are no problems at either end, then it’s likely the issue lies in the middle; check the transmitter unit and the wiring, and examine carefully for any interference.
The possibility of interference with 4~20mA signals is low; it’s better to check the transmitter output board
Try swapping the meters on other tanks to see if it’s a meter issue or an external wiring problem.
Is shielded cable being used? Just connect a multimeter in series to check whether there is any issue with the output current, or move the meter to the center console and check if the current fluctuates
You can use a multimeter to test the transmitter output section of the radar to see if there are fluctuations already present on the meter’s display. If so, replace the transmitter output board; if not, and the fluctuations occur on the DCS side, check the wiring for any interference.
Thank you so much to everyone above for their advice! What I do is swap the channels for the signals transmitted by the faulty radars and those from the functional radars within the DCS cabinet room. The end result is that the problematic radar signals are placed on separate channels, while the signals from normal radars are sent to the channels with problems; as a result, the liquid level display remains stable. From this, I conclude that there are no problems with the internal wiring and power supply in the control room. I’m thinking that what the people upstairs mentioned is likely an issue with the radar output section. Thank you all again! Thank you so much! Wish everyone a pleasant workday and all the best! ! !
