The overspeed protection of centrifugal compressors must be independent of the ITCC; I’m not sure if such a requirement exists
There is such a requirement. Excerpt from API 612 by the American Petroleum Institute,
There are regulations for this, and the two types of overspeed protection systems cannot use the same principle. Generally, one type uses a mechanical mechanism, namely a weight, while another type uses an electronic method, namely a two-out-of-three overspeed protection system. A control system independent of the unit.
According to SH/T 3199-2018, \"the drive turbine for the compressor shall be equipped with a dedicated electronic overspeed protector that is independent and certified as SIL3, operating in a 3-out-of-2 (2oo3) configuration, and a maximum turbine speed limit shall be set in the CCS speed control circuit.\" ”It can be understood in this way: the overspeed protector is relatively independent of the CCS system. This is because if the normal speed signal from the CCS is used directly, it cannot meet the time requirements for compressor overspeed protection as specified by API607. Specialized overspeed protectors (such as the Wordwud505) have a fast response time, allowing them to meet the API requirements.
