It is said that working in the instrumentation field is difficult, exhausting, and that one’s status in the factory is not as high as that of those in the process engineering department – it’s quite frustrating. Please share your experiences: what are the challenges associated with working in instrumentation?
Actually, those who work with instruments are the best. There is only one reason why they are not given much attention these days: the failure rate of current automation equipment is low, so the usefulness of instruments is not evident. Typically, inexperienced managers, when an accident occurs, blame it on inadequate inspections, insufficient technical skills, and a lack of responsibility. In fact, only those in this industry know the difficulties involved. Keep striving to master the skills; as long as you have solid technical expertise, the market opportunities in this industry are quite good. :)
Could you talk about the difficulties in the regular maintenance process?
In other words, which instrument-related issues can be resolved by beginners within a few months of learning, and which ones may still not be solvable even with several years of work experience?
I can’t say for sure; I think following the standards makes it quite easy to work with the instruments
Actually, it’s quite simple. In addition to the technical documents related to the position, use the instruction manuals for the individual instruments and devices you work with as a basis; follow the usage, maintenance, and precautions specified in those manuals, and expand on those requirements. For example, cleaning dust from relays, removing oxidation layers from contacts, checking bolts on solenoid valves to ensure there is no air leakage, maintaining the oiler and filter that form part of the instrument air supply system, as well as the diaphragm spring, diaphragm, and positioner of the control valve actuator, and so on. There is much work to be done, and the key lies in a sense of responsibility and dedication to one’s job. As long as you do it well, you will earn the respect of others. Oh, another important task is that your process technology must be superior to your process operation skills. It may seem like an excessive requirement, but in fact this is the skill you must master. This is a comprehensive task.
