Dinghua Electronics | Knowledge on the selection and application of radar level gauges. At present, in the field of level measurement, radar level gauges have become the preferred instrument among many users. Undoubtedly, this is because radar level gauges have a wider range of applications. The selection and use of radar level gauges are also an extremely important aspect. Selection: Various types of level gauges have their own characteristics and advantages. When choosing a gauge for measuring a particular medium, it is necessary to take into account various factors, including the properties of the medium to be measured, the purpose of the measurement, as well as environmental conditions and economic considerations. Try to make the best use of the advantages and overcome the disadvantages among various instruments, and select the one that is most suitable for measuring the specific medium and achieving the desired purpose. 1. The dielectric constant and electrical conductivity of the medium: It is necessary to look up these properties of the medium under consideration in order to determine the specific parameters, which in turn help decide whether to use a standard radar level gauge, a precision radar level gauge, or a guided-wave radar level gauge. If the specific dielectric constant of the conductive liquid being tested is at least 4, a standard radar level gauge can be used. If the specific dielectric constant of the conductive liquid being tested is not less than 2 and less than 4, a precision or guided-wave radar level gauge can be used. 2. Consider the measurement accuracy of the radar level gauge. The accuracy of ordinary radar level gauges is much lower than that of precision radar level gauges. Whether to use ordinary or precision radar level gauges should be determined based on the actual process requirements; otherwise, it will lead to unnecessary waste. 3. The accuracy of the radar level gauge must be taken into account; selecting the appropriate range is also essential. Obtain a very high value for the actual liquid level from the process engineer, and then select the antenna size based on this actual liquid level value. Due to differences in antenna size and type, their range widths also vary. Radar level gauges have three types of antennas: rod-type, flared-type, and parabolic-type. Considering the properties of the medium being measured: Since there are many types of radar level gauges, it is necessary to first take into account the pressure, temperature, density, and other properties of the medium in question, in order to select the appropriate antenna and display unit accordingly. For high-temperature or highly corrosive media, a contactless antenna radar level gauge should be used, so that the gauge does not come into direct contact with the liquid. This ensures the accuracy of the measurement data while also protecting the gauge from damage. Consider the purpose of medium measurement. When selecting a radar level gauge, it is also necessary to take into account the purpose of measuring the medium, in order to choose a level gauge with the appropriate level of measurement accuracy. To minimize investment, high-cost-performance level gauges should be selected as much as possible, provided that the required measurement accuracy is met. If the purpose of media measurement is for internal accounting, then high precision requirements are not necessary. If the purpose of measuring the medium is for external transactions, a high-precision level gauge must be selected. Consider other factors. When selecting a radar level gauge, it is also necessary to take into account environmental conditions, installation conditions, economic factors, as well as other aspects such as measurement range and frequency. Installation of radar level gauges: The installation of radar level gauges is also a very important aspect in carrying out level measurement. To ensure the normal and stable operation of these gauges, it is necessary to use a scientific and appropriate installation method in order to reduce the occurrence of various faults. During installation, it is necessary to ensure that the antenna is balanced with respect to the walls of the measurement slot; moreover, the installation position should be at least 300 mm away from those walls. Maintaining such a sufficient distance is essential, as otherwise it can lead to abnormal echo signals and false echoes. When measuring objects that are corrosive or prone to crystallization, in order to avoid the impact of various factors on the antenna and prevent crystals on the antenna from affecting its proper operation, it is necessary to select instruments appropriately, thereby reducing the occurrence of various faults and preventing errors in the data obtained.
For radar, it is still necessary to communicate with the factory and the radar manufacturers in order to select the appropriate model; the medium has a significant impact, as does the tank
