Maintenance requirements are high and the failure rate is not low. One of the major characteristics of positive displacement devices is high pressure loss. In terms of instrument maintenance, if the filter in front of the instrument is not cleaned promptly, it leads to significant pressure loss; as a result, the remaining pressure difference before and after the instrument is not sufficient to drive the rotor of the flow meter. This issue is most evident when using flow meters in industrial processes. Especially when dealing with viscous fuel oils, there is a concern that the flow meter might get stuck, resulting in insufficient flow and thus causing the furnace to shut down. As a result, process operators are very cautious when using such flow meters, and they even avoid closing the bypass lines, which leads to a low pressure difference before and after the meter and prevents it from rotating, thereby resulting in failure in its operation. Furthermore, impurities can cause wear and corrosion on the rotor, as well as sticking issues that result in the rotor failing to rotate; in such cases, disassembly for repair is necessary. However, due to the heavy nature of rotor flowmeters and the fact that the rotor is located within the medium, repairs become very difficult, especially when the medium is dirty, greasy, sticky, or otherwise messy, making repairs challenging.
