How is an OC switch tested?

For relays, I know that a multimeter’s continuity function can be used for testing; but what is used to test OC switches?
There’s a gauge, and it doesn’t already have upper and lower limit alarms? Normally, our gauges use relay switches, and I can use the continuity function on a multimeter to check the operating status of those relays. Now there’s a gauge whose alarms are indicated by the OC+ and OC- terminals; what method should I use to determine the operating status of this gauge, that is, to find out whether the switch is closed or open?
Check what signal this “OC” switch represents; it should be specified in the instrument’s manual or on the wiring box. Generally, the alarm signals provided with instruments are either on/off signals, or they might be NAMER signals (with voltages around 4-8V for high and low levels). Other types of signals are usually not provided (due to cost considerations).
