The company has two intermediate tanks for concentrated sulfuric acid, which share one unloading pump. As shown in the figure. One tank has a full liquid level of 3.6 meters, while the other tank has a full liquid level of 3.2 meters. To prevent the tanks from overflowing during unloading, an interlock that stops the pump when the liquid level reaches a high level is necessary. However, the high-level thresholds for the two tanks are different (3.2 meters for one and 2.8 meters for the other). Solution: Set both high-level alarm interlock values at 2.8 meters; this will result in a loss of some storage capacity in the tank with a threshold of 3.6 meters. I would like to ask everyone if there are any other solutions for this? Additionally, what are some good level gauges? Currently, we use magnetostrictive level gauges for tanks with a height of 3.6 meters (where there are no flanges available on the side of the tank), and single-flange level gauges for tanks with a height of 3.2 meters.
With two pumps, they are installed separately. As for the level gauge, the cost is a key factor to consider; we have been using magnetostrictive ones, but insulation is an issue. Personally, it’s better to use radar in SIS.
Don’t fill the two tanks at the same time either; it’s fine to fill them one by one
Each tank just needs to have its own appropriate interlock value; there’s no need for a uniform standard. This can be achieved using a DCS, and it’s very simple
Just set each one separately. The process for feeding should be initiated for the tank corresponding to the tank to be fed.
Each follows its own logic; the output is simply to stop the same pump.
Cut-off valves are installed on the feed pipes, and the liquid level is linked to each corresponding cut-off valve; the pump stops when the liquid level in both tanks is high, while if only one tank has a high liquid level, only that valve closes without stopping the pump
