I would like to ask the experts here. For a project I’m working on, a flow meter needs to be installed on the pipeline at the fan inlet, before it reaches the oil and gas recovery device. The pressure in this section is very low, ranging from -50 to 500 Pa, and the pipeline diameter is DN500. I’m not sure which flow meter to choose; could the experts please advise me on the most suitable option?
First, determine with the process team whether it makes sense to measure flow at this location and whether it is necessary to install such a device; several sets have been built without any requirement for flow monitoring. If it’s really necessary, one could consider bar-type or thermal types; though they might not work well either. It just depends on the trends.
In this case, as long as there is no blockage, a differential pressure flow meter will work fine. It doesn’t matter if the upstream pressure is low; the flow meter is located at the fan inlet, so the downstream pressure will be even lower. And this situation does not require high precision. Therefore, a differential pressure flow meter is feasible.
