How should the density of the float in a magnetic flap level gauge be designed? Is there any specific numerical requirement regarding the density difference with the medium? Or does it just need to be less than the density of the medium? I seek guidance from experts; waiting online... :)
Magnetic flap level gauges can be used as level indicators as well as interface detectors. For level indicators, it is sufficient that the density of the float is lower than that of the medium; whereas for interface detectors, it is necessary to know the densities of the two phases, and the float’s density must lie between those two densities in order to determine the interface
It just needs to be slightly less dense than a liquid; it can’t be much less dense – maybe a 0.1 to 0.2 decrease is sufficient. For those magnetic flap switches purchased from our factory, when the float gets damaged, it’s sufficient to simply replace it with a smaller float. It works even better than what was originally designed.
My medium density is 0.65, and the buoyant density of the level gauge’s float is 0.64; it seems like it won’t be easy for it to float. If there’s even a slight obstruction, it could lead to a disaster. I’m not sure whether a density difference of 0.15 is considered significant
It should be less dense than the material; as long as it can float, that’s fine.
I wonder if there are any relevant design standards or specifications that serve as a basis?
Wouldn’t it be better to give this to the level gauge manufacturer or distributor?
