I have a question regarding the interface of a DCS system

Using hundreds of data points to create trend groups isn’t as intuitive as displaying a historical interface. Additionally, have team leaders and operators conduct production fault analysis; the historical interface is the most intuitive for this purpose. I asked a certain company, and they said DCS doesn’t have this feature. If it can be added, it will undoubtedly be a major highlight. I work in process design. I asked several DCS companies, and their focus is not on ease of operation; they don’t pay much attention to the design of the interface data or its aesthetics. There’s no other way; I have to draw for them interface diagrams, indicate the locations of standard data, as well as where public engineering parameters should be displayed, and specify the color schemes. It’s time-consuming and labor-intensive – it would be great if everything could be done in one go.

What do you mean by the historical interface? The data table for all locations? Just export those historical data and use Excel; isn’t it possible to filter them in any way?

Theoretically, you can achieve this by creating a dedicated \"review\" flowchart, adding fields for inputting time on the page, and then changing the links to the data at each step of the regular flowchart to point to the historical values read from the code. But this requires adding a large number of virtual points, and a lot of programming is needed; those responsible for configuration certainly won’t want to do it. Perhaps the requirements vary depending on the process and operating environment. In our case, for tracing individual devices, we can add up to 8 data points in a single pop-up trend chart for observation; this is sufficient for our needs. When it comes to genuine \"retrospection\" on our end, we pay more attention to the trend of changes over time, rather than the instantaneous values at a specific point in time.

It makes sense, but your reasoning is based on DCS principles, not those of process analysis. I checked it – data above 100 must be displayed simultaneously on the same operation interface (process diagram) in order to facilitate real-time process analysis and decision-making. From the perspective of DCS operators, this complicates simple tasks; however, for those who work with chemical processes, it simplifies complex tasks. So the key question arises: who serves whom?
