I would like to ask whether there is a time limit on the actuation time for closing the emergency shut-off valve used in the pipelines of the butadiene transfer arm? What is the minimum duration in seconds? For 6-inch pipelines, which standard serves as the relevant reference? I seek your advice on the above matters; thank you
SHT 3005-2016 Specification for the Selection and Design of Automation Instruments in Petrochemical Industries; API RP 553-2012. Generally, a response time of within 10 seconds should be sufficient to meet the process requirements, unless there are special safety requirements; in such cases, the valve design specifications provided by the design institute should be followed. Faster switching times mean a greater torque requirement, thicker drive shafts, actuators with higher torque as well as corresponding accessories, resulting in higher initial purchase costs. As long as the switching time meets the specifications and satisfies the requirements, that’s fine.
