Is it necessary for system IO cards and intelligent valve positioners to have HART protocol support? What specific function is it meant to implement?
It’s convenient for connection and debugging, but we haven’t used it here either; personally, I don’t think it’s necessary
HART can be used to read data, as well as to retrieve and modify the parameters within it (when auto-tuning of the locator does not meet the control requirements, the locator parameters can be adjusted through HART). Currently, HART chips are quite expensive; using devices with HART functionality increases costs significantly.

Can such adjustments, as you mentioned, be carried out using specialized software on the control system’s operation station, when both the control system and the positioner have Hart interfaces? So if there’s no Hart, one can only press buttons on the local locator on-site – can all operations still be carried out that way? Is it just more troublesome?
It has no practical meaning unless it’s on AMS.
HART allows for the reading of parameters within the locator, including valve position and any faults. Most locators these days come equipped with HART functionality; it’s just necessary to specify this when making a selection. Most locators can also be operated using buttons on-site
It’s not just a hassle; in my opinion, it’s necessary to consider the actual working conditions on site. Factors such as high or low temperatures at the site, or the fact that the transmitter is installed too high or too deep, can all influence whether HART should be used. After all, an accident could result in losses that are far too great for the owner to bear
Let’s look at this issue separately: 1) Intelligent locators, preferably those with HART functionality, as it facilitates problem diagnosis in special situations； 2) System IO cards: If the DCS is from Emerson, an AMS can be installed on the engineer station to enable tasks such as viewing locator parameters, performing backups, and making adjustments. For Yokogawa systems, a PRM needs to be installed in order to manage locators remotely; this facilitates management when there are few employees in the department
