Dear friends: The fermentation workshop we are setting up will have some fermentation tanks. The fermentation substrate is molasses, which is used to ferment and produce alcohol. During the molasses fermentation process, foaming occurs easily. Sometimes, the foam layer can reach over 2 meters in height. In previous projects, we kept the material level quite low, resulting in very low equipment utilization. Seeing the severe foaming, the workers poured defoamer into the manhole. In this project, the designer installed foam detection instruments on top of the fermentation tanks, and the DCS controls solenoid valves to automatically inject defoamers. The process description is as shown in the schematic diagram. Here’s the problem: we have never used this type of instrument before; in our previous fermenters, we installed differential pressure transmitters with double flanges at the bottom of the tank to measure the level of the material. Such foam cannot be detected, as it has no weight and the differential pressure transmitter is unable to sense it! Therefore, another set of instruments for detecting foam needs to be installed. For the foam detection instrument at the top of this fermentation tank, which brand and model would be suitable? Please give me some advice. Also, a few years ago, we went to visit another company’s factory; the client had not yet started production, and I saw a Siemens transmitter installed at the top of the fermentation tank there. It is probably used to detect the foam layer. I secretly took two photos, but I didn’t capture the model of the dashboard either. Please take a close look and tell me what purpose this Siemens transmitter they have chosen is for What model? I would appreciate everyone’s advice; experience in actual use would be even better!

Look at the edge – there is a marking indicating 4–20mA. Based on your description of the operating conditions, it is most likely a capacitive level gauge, also known as radio frequency admittance: victory:
