When selecting an RT pH meter for online electrode replacement, it is necessary to choose one equipped with a ball valve. I have never understood how such pH meters allow for online insertion and removal of electrodes.

See the insertion method in the figure below: when the ball valve is fully open, both ends are connected directly, which is equivalent to a short installation tube and does not affect the installation and use of the instrument； When it needs to be removed, slightly loosen the seal at the upper end (usually a packing seal is used), and slowly pull the instrument above the ball valve without it coming loose from the packing (it is possible to determine whether the instrument has become detached from the ball valve by observing the movement of the ball valve handle) ； Close the ball valve ； Remove the gauge. When inserting, follow the reverse order above. Through the above methods, the installation/removal of instruments can be completed while the equipment is in operation (under pressure). Experienced people can do it just by wearing a suit.
