The design institute has developed a rail-mounted temperature transmitter with an explosion protection rating of Exd IIC T4. After consulting E+H, they said that rail-mounted versions do not have explosion protection. Has anyone used such a device?
Is this for installation in the control cabinet? I’ve never used explosion-proof ones; you can ask a few more companies. I mean, is it really necessary to use explosion-proof ones?
Guideway mounting is for indoor installation; logically, there should be no explosion-proof version.
The rail-mounted type is installed inside a cabinet; there’s no point in making it explosion-proof. You need to use an explosion-proof enclosure, which itself cannot be opened casually; moreover, if there are components inside such an enclosure, then explosion protection is no longer necessary.
Should explosion-proof transmitters be used on-site? It doesn’t make much sense; power still needs to be cut off for maintenance. Can’t we just use intrinsically safe equipment instead?
The guide rails are all installed in the control cabinet, where there is the power supply and other components; is explosion protection also necessary there?
If installation on-site is necessary, place it in an explosion-proof box.
As per what’s inside the explosion-proof box on site, the design institute designed it to be flameproof. I asked Rosemount and E+H; apparently, the rail-mounted temperature transmitters exist only in this case and are not explosion-proof.

Yes, since these are multi-point thermocouples set up as a split-type configuration, the temperature transmitter is installed in an explosion-proof box on-site. However, the design institute isn’t sure whether this combination is acceptable or not.
