On July 13, 2023, the Engineering Construction Branch of Fushun Petrochemical Company completed the localization upgrade of the instrument monitoring system for the K-201 compressor unit, marking the installation of domestic \"smart eyes\" on this unit. The K-201 unit is a key piece of equipment in the epoxy plant’s ethylene facility, responsible for compressing the recycled gas; any failure in the instrument control and monitoring system will result in the shutdown of the epoxy production process. The original control system of this unit has been in use for over 20 years, and its vibration monitoring equipment has been in operation for more than 30 years; as a result, the components are severely aged. This year, Fushun Petrochemical decided to carry out a project to upgrade instruments with domestically produced ones. Upon receiving the task of localization transformation, Workshop 6 of the company’s instrumentation division made meticulous arrangements and proactive plans, ensuring thorough preparations in terms of manpower, data collection, and equipment operation. In the early stages of construction, technical personnel carried out tasks such as testing the instrument circuits, collecting data on operational interlocks, and drawing interlock logic diagrams. They sought out technical documentation and relevant instrument parameters, and communicated repeatedly with the manufacturers to confirm each aspect of the process of localizing these instruments as well as any potential risks, while also formulating countermeasures to ensure the smooth progress of the renovation. During the construction process, technical personnel managed to complete the disassembly and installation of 1,250 meters of cables, the replacement of 30 pieces of equipment, and the installation of cabinets in just 4 days. This enabled the transfer of parameters for all equipment and instruments, thus fully accomplishing the task of domesticating and upgrading the equipment. The upgraded instrument monitoring system fully meets the production requirements, and it features functions such as \"pressure transmitter display, control, execution, and interlock actions\", along with various monitoring capabilities; it offers faster responses, greater intelligence, and simpler operation. It is reported that this localization of the system has saved over 1 million yuan in costs, and it also facilitates future routine maintenance of the instruments as well as after-sales service.
