The instrument does not support the HART protocol and only outputs 4-20mA signals. Is it possible to use an existing wireless HART module to convert 4-20mA signals into wireless HART output through proper design?
The conversion of 4-20mA signals to wireless HART output can be achieved by designing a conversion module. This module needs to be able to read 4-20mA signals and convert them into a HART protocol data format for transmission. An analog signal converter and a wireless HART modem are usually required. If the instrument itself does not support the HART protocol, then many of its parameters lack data sources that can be accessed and supported by the HART protocol. Adding a card or accessory with HART protocol conversion functionality can only convert 4 – 20mA signals into a format compatible with HART protocol transmission; however, it does not enable the retrieval, transmission, or writing of information specific to the HART protocol, as the instrument itself may not possess such sources of information beyond the measurement values. In other words, for a gauge that does not support the HART protocol, there may be no parameters or corresponding setting functions within it other than those related to the values it measures; without the core element, the accompanying elements cannot exist.
I only need the data measured by the instrument itself; I convert the 4-20ma signal output into a digital signal before processing it
As long as measurements are available, there is no need to add a conversion card to a meter. Unless most of the other instruments on site have wireless HART functionality.
