According to incomplete statistics, there are projects related to ethylene production capacities of millions of tons that have either been announced, approved, or already commenced construction; the main ones include the following 8 projects: 1. Lu Oil Lu Refining Transformation and Upgrading Technical Improvement Project – 1 million tons. 2. Nanjing Yangzi Yangba Olefins Co., Ltd.’s light hydrocarbon comprehensive utilization project – 1 million tons. 3. Yanchang 10 million tons/year integrated refining and chemical transformation project of Yanchang Petroleum – 1.2 million tons. 4. Hunan Petrochemical’s 1 million-ton per year ethylene refining and chemical integration project — 1 million tons. 5. Phase II of the Fujian Gulei Refining and Chemical Integration Project – 1.5 million tons. 6. China-Saudi Arabia Ghulayy ethylene project — 1.8 million tons. 7. Luoyang Petrochemical’s million-ton ethylene project — 1 million tons. 8. Shanghai Petrochemical’s comprehensive technical transformation and quality improvement project — 1.2 million tons.
Luyou Luyan Transformation and Upgrading Technical Renovation Project: 1. Luyou Luyan Transformation and Upgrading Technical Renovation Project: 2. Chemical processing section: Ethylene cracking unit, 1 million tons per year； Ethylene oxide plant, 200,000 tons/year ； Hydrogenation of pyrolysis gasoline, 600,000 tons/year ； Aromatic extraction unit: 1 million tons per year ； Butadiene extraction unit, 150,000 tons ； Waste alkali solution treatment device ； Aromatic hydrocarbon adsorption separation unit, 180,000 tons/year ； Technical transformation for restoring 200,000-ton ion-exchange membrane caustic soda production capacity ；
Nanjing Yangzi Yangba Olefins Co., Ltd.’s Light Hydrocarbons Comprehensive Utilization Project: Construction details: Construction of 1 set of ethylene steam cracking unit with an annual capacity of 1 million tons (including a waste alkali oxidation unit), 1 set of gasoline hydrogenation unit with an annual capacity of 500,000 tons, and 1 set of aromatic extraction unit with an annual capacity of 620,000 tons – in total 3 process units – along with related auxiliary and supporting facilities；
Yan’an 10 million tons/year integrated refining and chemical transformation project of Yanchang Petroleum: Construction scope: Build a new set of units for atmospheric and vacuum distillation with a capacity of 10 million tons/year, as well as an ethylene plant with a capacity of 1.2 million tons/year and other related refining and chemical facilities; at the same time, shut down and renovate the existing facilities of the company；
Hunan Petrochemical’s 1 million tons per year ethylene refining and chemical integration project: Construction scope includes an ethylene plant with a capacity of 1 million tons per year, a hydroprocessing unit for 500,000 tons per year of pyrolysis gasoline, as well as 14 chemical processing units and associated utility systems.
Fujian Gulei Integrated Refining and Chemicals Project, Phase II: 1. Refining section: new units for atmospheric and vacuum distillation with a capacity of 16 million tons per year, light hydrocarbon recovery with a capacity of 3.8 million tons per year, jet fuel hydrogenation with a capacity of 1.5 million tons per year, 2×2.6 million tons per year of heavy oil hydrogenation (including a solvent deasphalting unit with a capacity of 1.2 million tons per year), diesel hydrotreating with a capacity of 4 million tons per year, 2×3.2 million tons per year of wax oil hydrotreating, 2×3 million tons per year of reforming, combined aromatics production with a capacity of 2 million tons per year, carbon dioxide recovery with a capacity of 600,000 tons per year, 3×20 + 70,000 tons per year of sulfur recovery, as well as related desulfurization and supporting facilities.
Fujian Gulei Integrated Refining and Chemicals Project, Phase II: 2. Chemical processing section: construction of a 1.5 million tons/year ethylene steam cracking unit, a 600,000 tons/year cracked gasoline hydrogenation unit, a 350,000 tons/year aromatic extraction unit, a 210,000 tons/year butadiene unit, a 300,000 tons/year vinyl acetate unit, 200,000/60,000 tons/year MTBE/butene-1 units, a 300,000 tons/year tubular EVA production unit, a 300,000 tons/year linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) unit, a 300,000 tons/year fully dense polyethylene (FDPE) unit, a 500,000 tons/year high-density polyethylene (HDPE) unit, a 400,000 tons/year acrylonitrile unit, a 350,000 tons/year polypropylene unit, a 300,000 tons/year C5 separation unit, and 160,000/190,000 tons/year acrylic acid and esters units, among others.
Sino-Saudi Ghulayy ethylene project: Construction scope: An ethylene steam cracking unit with a capacity of 1.8 million tons, along with a range of world-class downstream production facilities, including those for producing ethylene glycol, polyethylene, polypropylene, polycarbonate, and other products；
Luoyang Petrochemical’s 1 million tons per year ethylene project: Construction details: Based on the raw materials supplied by Luoyang Petrochemical’s refinery, this project involves the construction of 13 petrochemical production units, with a 1 million tons per year ethylene plant as the core. These units include a 150,000 tons per year butadiene extraction plant, a 600,000 tons per year pyrolysis gasoline hydrogenation plant, a 400,000 tons per year aromatic extraction plant, a 30,000 tons per year styrene extraction plant, a 300,000 tons per year metallocene linear low-density polyethylene plant, a 350,000 tons per year high-density polyethylene plant, a 250,000 tons per year low-density polyethylene/ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (LDPE/EVA) plant, a 100,000 tons per year EVA plant, an 200,000 tons per year ethylene oxide plant, a 400,000 tons per year No. 3 polypropylene plant, and a 200,000 tons per year No. 4 polypropylene plant.
Shanghai Petrochemical’s Comprehensive Technical Transformation and Quality Improvement Project: Scope of the project: By utilizing advanced process technologies, this project involves restructuring the refining facilities while maintaining the existing refining capacity of 14 million tons per year. It includes shutting down the existing aging facilities for producing 700,000 tons per year of ethylene, as well as the second oxidation and second polyester production units, and constructing new facilities capable of producing 1.2 million tons per year of ethylene and related new materials, thereby improving the company’s overall safety and environmental performance；
