With improved performance and better cost-performance ratios, they will help maintain or increase Siemens’ market share in this product category in China. From the preview information for these three new products, it is easy to detect subtle changes in Siemens’ product strategy in the Chinese market, with a focus on significantly improving cost-performance. The intention behind this is clear: to maintain or increase its share of the Chinese market for similar products. Of course, this is also a good thing for end-users, but it poses greater challenges to domestic industrial control manufacturers as well.
I. The S7-1200 G2 is set to be launched soon. In 2024, Siemens’ second generation of the S7-1200 (S7-1200 G2) made its debut at the Hannover Messe and the Shanghai Industry Expo, with official orders expected to be available in the first half of 2025. The latest system manual for the S7-1200 G2 is available for download on Siemens’ official website.
In terms of appearance, it is more concise and elegant； In terms of performance, thanks to the use of more advanced processors and an expanded memory capacity, the processing speed will increase significantly, enabling faster handling of complex industrial control tasks ； In terms of communication, it performs even better. It supports multiple communication protocols, enabling seamless connection with devices of various brands and thus creating a more intelligent and efficient industrial network ；
In terms of functionality, the second generation of Siemens S7-1200 also features many new advantages. For example, it has more advanced diagnostic capabilities that allow it to detect and report system failures in a timely manner, thereby providing great convenience for the maintenance and repair of equipment ； In terms of security, its performance has also been further enhanced through the use of advanced encryption technologies and access control mechanisms to ensure the safety and reliability of industrial control systems.
The S7-1200 G2 PLC will offer the following main features: 01. A more compact design that saves space. 02、A more powerful processor and faster execution time. 03, 8MB internal load memory. 04. 20KB retention memory. 05. Near Field Communication (NFC) applications, used for mobile devices to access the CPU. 06. Up to two plug-in expansion boards can be supported. 07. All CPU models in the series come equipped with dual Ethernet ports. 08, 8 HSCs (High-Speed Counters).
09. 8 pulse generators are used for PTO (pulse train output) or for PWM (pulse width modulation). 10. Standard motion control with advanced motion features. 11. Supports real-time PROFINET and isochronous real-time PROFINET communication. 12. The CPU can communicate with up to 31 PN devices on the local PN network, supporting a maximum of 512 sub-modules. 13. Supports Web servers, DHCP, and DNS.
II. The S7-200 SMART V3.0 is about to be launched. While maintaining the same physical dimensions, it is more powerful than the S7-200 SMART V2.0 in terms of hardware, functions, security, and programming. The new hardware features more memory and faster speeds, taking this PLC to the next level. Furthermore, its support for UDT and array data types, its acceptance of FB programming concepts, and its support for various motion functions (cam, gear, and interpolation) bring this PLC very close to the S7-1200 series. The Siemens S7-200 SMART V3.0 ST/SR 40/60 is expected to be released in March 2025.

It is worth mentioning that the advantages of enhanced software functions, remote maintenance, and Internet of Things capabilities make these products highly competitive in terms of cost-performance, on par with several popular domestic products available today. The Siemens SMART LINE V5 is expected to be released in March 2025.
The main features of SMART LINE V5 are as follows: 01. Dimensions are compatible with the previous V4 version, but it has a more premium appearance. 02. The core processor has been upgraded to a dual-core CPU. 03. A new RS232 serial interface and an SD card slot have been added. 04. The battery life of the RTC clock is extended to 5 years. 05. It supports the expansion of Internet of Things functions. 06. It supports WIFI hotspot mode. 07. It is compatible with the SIMICAS Internet of Things platform as well as remote maintenance capabilities. 08. It features a brand new graphical display framework along with improved UI/UX design. 09. It fully supports JavaScript scripting. 10. New free-port communication functionality has been added. 11. It supports encrypted communication with 200 SMART devices. 12. It is compatible with 200SMART PLC V3 UDT. 13. It allows seamless migration from the previous V4 version
