I’m seeking advice from everyone: At present, the DCS cabinet room in my company is about 1 KM away from the DCS operation room. An emergency stop switch needs to be installed in the DCS operation room, but such a distance may cause the switch to malfunction. The option of using remote cabinets in the DCS operation room is also not feasible due to limited space. Is there any remote device that can be used for an emergency stop switch? Thank you!

The emergency stop switch uses a three-contact button with a 3-out-of-2 configuration; the cable can be slightly thicker – there’s no problem with a length of 1 kilometer. Why would it malfunction?

It is necessary to calculate and choose a wire with a larger diameter for the resistance. I have worked on projects involving 500 meters in length; after doing the calculations, I chose a thicker wire diameter, and no problems arose. Fibers and the like cannot be used; an emergency stop system must ensure safety without delaying production, so hard wiring is the most reliable option

The fewer components involved, the more reliable it will be. There’s no need for anything like networks or devices, or for optical/electrical conversions – just use two sets (1 switch + cable (thickened)) connected in parallel (it’s best to use separate cable trays to prevent damage during installation or by excavators). Test and record before each start-up to ensure it is in good condition.
