Black foam appears when ammonium sulfate is used as a mother liquor – what could be the reason?
When preparing the mother liquor for ammonium sulfate production, foaming is normal. When acid is added to the mother liquor (water), it reacts with the water releasing a large amount of heat, and the vaporization of water causes foaming. It should be normal for the color to turn black; the tar in gas reacts with acids to form acid tar, which is black in color.
