Source: Northern News, Sinochem New Network. On March 15, the large-scale syngas island project jointly developed by Inner Mongolia Jutai New Materials Co., Ltd. and Air Products and Chemicals Inc. (referred to as AP Company) was launched in the Tuoketuo Industrial Park in Hohhot. This marks an important step forward in the industrial upgrading process, as the private economy in our region works together with foreign-funded enterprises to achieve this goal. It is reported that this large-scale syngas island project was invested in and constructed by AP Company, with an estimated total investment of around 4.8 billion yuan. The project will use specialized equipment to convert coal into purified synthetic gas, in order to meet the production needs of a project that aims to produce 1 million tons of ethylene glycol per year, thereby facilitating the upgrading of the new materials industry. The project for an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of ethylene glycol is being invested in and constructed by Inner Mongolia Jiu Tai New Materials Co., Ltd. The total investment in this project amounts to 13.3 billion yuan, and it covers an area of 2,565 mu. The construction period is 3 years, with completion and operation scheduled for the end of 2020. Once operational, the project is expected to generate annual sales revenue of 10.6 billion yuan and profits and taxes amounting to 3.66 billion yuan. The environmental protection investment for this project amounts to approximately 603.09 million yuan, accounting for 8.77% of the total investment. In 2018, it was designated as a major industrial project by both the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and Hohhot City. Inner Mongolia Joutai New Materials Co., Ltd. was established in March 2017; it is a new materials company operated by the private sector. According to Cui Yijun, the general manager of the company, the commencement of the large-scale syngas island project marks the official start of JiuTai’s cooperation with foreign companies and industrial funds. For the project construction, Jutai Company supplies raw materials and utility services to AP Company, while AP Company invests in and operates the facilities related to the large-scale syngas plant, thereby providing the syngas needed for Jutai Company’s ethylene glycol production. It is estimated that the large synthetic gas island will operate for 8,000 hours per year, supplying 550,000 standard cubic feet per hour. It is understood that ethylene glycol, as an important basic chemical raw material, has a wide range of applications, and can be used to produce more than 100 different chemical products and substances. At the same time, ethylene glycol can also be used to produce the intermediate product formaldehyde, thereby extending the industrial chain.
