For a long time, the gasification of smokeless coals has represented a challenge in coal gasification technology. Through technological innovation and practical engineering efforts, Sinochem Saiding Engineering Co., Ltd. has developed its own Saiding Furnace, which effectively addresses this issue. The anthracite from Jincheng, Shanxi, features extremely high crush strength, a very low Hargreaves grindability index, and a high ash fusion point above 1500°C, making it the best raw material for traditional fixed-bed atmospheric gasification. Jinmei Jinshi Gaocheng Branch of Shanxi Jincheng Anthracite Coal Industry Group Co., Ltd., and Henan Jinmei Tianqing Coal Chemical Co., Ltd., which were the first to use Siding furnaces in the pressurized gasification of anthracite coal, began operations at the end of 2013; currently, these facilities are operating stably. In engineering applications, Saiding’s pressurized gasification technology for bituminous coal has distinct advantages, such as a low steam-to-oxygen ratio, a high content of useful gases in the raw gas, a low frequency of operation for the ash lock valves, which are among the key maintenance components, and a high online operating rate for the gasifier. At the same time, Sideng’s pressurized gasification technology using bituminous coal pulverized fuel features oil-free and low-dust crude gas. It replaces the traditional quenching + low-pressure waste heat recovery process with a dry dust removal + medium-pressure waste heat recovery process. Additionally, the pretreatment process for gasification wastewater is optimized; the improved wastewater treatment process and its parameters are roughly similar to those used in fluidized bed gasification. Practice has shown that smokeless lump coal is an excellent coal type for the SD furnace coal crushing and pressurized gasification technology. The optimized SD furnace can further reduce investment costs and improve energy utilization efficiency, making it a suitable gasification process for dealing with the \"high calorific value, high ash content, and high sulfur content\" coal types in China.
