The oil content in the residual ammonia water has a significant impact on the ammonia evaporation process; to ensure its continuous and proper operation, the oil content in the residual ammonia water must not be too high. Currently, to remove oil from residual ammonia water, methods such as sedimentation in an ammonia water tank, air flotation for oil removal, ceramic filters or other types of filters are commonly used. Additionally, demulsifiers are added to facilitate the separation of tar from the ammonia water. Are there any better separation methods?

Ceramic tube ammonia filters work very well. Here we don’t use air flotation; only ceramic tube filters are employed. By paying attention to the operational details, the ammonia distillation tower won’t suffer from tar clogging of the trays: 1. Replace them regularly – we usually do this every 3 days; 2. The key lies in the effectiveness of cleaning: use steam purging and backwash with ammonia-containing wastewater; the treatment time must be sufficient. Clean once more with ammonia-containing wastewater before putting it into use

Ceramic tube filters can only remove heavy tar; light tar cannot be removed. Traditionally, air flotation tar removers are used, but the addition of demulsifiers represents the most thorough solution, and this is still under investigation
