To reduce costs, coking plants are increasingly using high-sulfur coal, which leads to an increasing load on the desulfurization units; as a result, the treatment of sulfur foam becomes even more important. In the past, coking plants mostly used sulfur melting tanks to handle sulfur foam. However, these tanks are subject to strict regulations as pressure vessels; after operating for a while, their efficiency declines, production drops, energy consumption increases, and safety hazards arise. As a result, more and more manufacturers are opting for plate and frame filter presses to deal with sulfur foam. Compared with sulfur melting tanks, plate and frame filter presses have the following advantages: 1. Simple structure and good safety. 2. High processing capacity and low energy consumption. 3. Low failure rate, simple maintenance, and low operating costs. 4. The filtered clear liquid is clean and has not been exposed to high temperatures, so it does not affect the properties of the desulfurization solution. Although plate and frame filter presses have the advantages mentioned above, they must be selected appropriately to achieve the desired results. Certain points must be taken into consideration when selecting and using them: 1. There are many types of filter presses, each with various functions; it is necessary to choose the appropriate type based on specific circumstances. 2. The material and filtration precision of the filter cloth in filter presses also vary greatly; it is best to determine them after conducting filtration tests. 3. When designing and installing filter presses, considerations such as safety, environmental protection, and operator safety must be taken into account. 4. The flow rate and head of the accompanying foam pump must be compatible with those of the filter press. 5. Appropriate safety operating procedures must be established, and employees must be trained adequately before the system can be put into operation.
