Recently, in an effort to accelerate the exploration of methods and technologies for managing gas in coal mines, Henan Polytechnic University has partnered with China Pingmei Shennma Group to set up a research laboratory for the development and utilization of coalbed methane. The two parties will use Henan Pingbao Company as a pilot for research on implementing proactive measures to address major gas disasters on-site, with the aim of gradually extending these measures to the entire Pingdingshan mining area. At the same time, by employing various methods such as gas power generation, gas compression, gas liquefaction, and integrating gas into the energy grid, efficient and large-scale utilization of gas is promoted, leading to significant improvements in the efficiency of gas management. This approach aims to achieve safety, efficiency, and economic benefits through effective gas management. To date, the two parties have jointly completed research on a test well in the mining disturbance area and another test well in the goaf area at Pingbao Company. This research has challenged the traditional belief that it is difficult to extract coalbed methane from areas where structural coal is present, and it has led to improvements in the amount of coalbed methane that can be extracted through surface wells in the mining areas of Henan Province. In recent years, Henan Polytechnic University has provided technical and intellectual support for **safe production, the energy industry, and regional economic development. Relying on the Key Laboratory of Green Coal Conversion in Henan Province, established by its School of Chemical Engineering, the university has accelerated efforts to address gas management in areas where structural coal is present, as well as to promote the efficient exploration and utilization of coalbed methane resources.
