With organic macromolecular flocculants, especially polyacrylamide, manual preparation of their aqueous solutions can lead to the formation of so-called \"fish eyes\". This occurs when the material is added too quickly; as a result, some of the polymer does not disperse before entering the water. The outer layer of these undissolved polymer clumps comes into contact with water and dissolves, thereby encasing the clumps. This makes it difficult for water molecules to penetrate inside the clumps, preventing the polymer particles within them from dissolving. Moreover, there are pores between these polymer particles, which are filled with air. As we all know, although polyacrylamide itself has a high density, the bulk density of polyacrylamide powder is less than that of water. The density of the clumps wrapped in the viscous polyacrylamide solution is also lower than that of water, which is why they float. To avoid this phenomenon, professional mixing equipment and jet nozzles based on the Venturi principle should be used as much as possible during the mixing process, and many manufacturers produce such devices.
