The pump used for low- and medium-temperature methanol washing in production was only operated in conjunction with alcohol processing, after which it was not used any further. A year later, methanol was found to be leaking from the hot air exhaust port of the mechanical seal. Why does leakage occur from the mechanical seal even when the equipment is not in use? On the other wheel, was the leakage even worse?
The mechanical seal face of the pump is sealed by a liquid film; if this film disappears due to prolonged non-use, leakage will occur. Is there any corrosion as well?
