The turbine acts as the “heart” of the entire plant, adding pressure and kinetic energy to the process gases. Designed for the world’s largest gasifier with a daily coal feeding capacity of 3,000 tons per furnace, the project is equipped with a sub-high pressure condensing industrial large-scale steam turbine. Among them, the turbine of the carbon dioxide compression unit has a rated speed of 5480 r/min and a rated power of 18040 kW. Large-scale equipment has high requirements for the manufacturing process and is difficult to operate; any errors that occur during commissioning can damage the equipment and delay the project timeline. To ensure the smooth testing, Coal-Based Clean Energy Company attached great importance to this matter and organized technical personnel to carry out ORI inspections, equipment tests, and instrument calibrations on multiple occasions. Once the trial run began, the company’s management team stayed on site 24 hours a day to keep a close eye on the equipment. After warming up the pipe, tests such as manual tripping, electronic over-speed tripping, and mechanical over-speed tripping were carried out as the rotation speed increased from 500 r/min to 5116 r/min, all of which were successful. The successful commissioning of the large steam turbine demonstrates that the employees of Coal-Based Clean Energy Company possess the capability to operate large-scale equipment, and it also indicates that the project’s purification units are ready for operation in conjunction with the rest of the system.
