**Launch of the key research and development program project “New Technologies for Producing Fuels and Chemicals from Coal-Based Methanol” Author/Source: Yaha Coal Chemical Industry Date: 10-15-2018 Views: 17 Recently, Tianjin University, the leading entity for the project “New Technologies for Producing Fuels and Chemicals from Coal-Based Methanol” under the key special program on “Clean and Efficient Utilization of Coal and New Energy-Saving Technologies,” together with the Management Office of this key special program (hereinafter referred to as the “Office”), organized a meeting in Tianjin to launch the project and discuss its implementation plan. More than 50 people attended the meeting, including leaders from Tianjin University’s research institute, members of the project advisory expert group, project leaders and key team members, experts responsible for the overall expert group related to this project, peer experts, as well as relevant members of the Office. In their speech, the leaders of the School of Chemical Engineering at Tianjin University provided an overview of the key research and development projects that Tianjin University has undertaken over the past three years. They noted that the kick-off meeting marked the beginning of these projects, and that the evaluation of the implementation plans was crucial for the execution of the projects and their proper management. They expressed the hope that the project teams would work together to achieve the project goals. This project is one of the two different technical route projects supported under the same guideline framework as part of a key special initiative; a second evaluation will be conducted after one year of implementation to select the best option. The project leader presented the project implementation plan from aspects such as the project overview and technical approach, main research contents and innovative points, expected outcomes and evaluation indicators, R&D team and progress, implementation schedule, and project organization and management. The experts present listened carefully to the project team’s report and had thorough discussions with them on aspects such as the technical and engineering challenges of the project, as well as the conditions necessary for its demonstration implementation. The expert group present recommended that the project team focus on the project objectives during implementation, further refine the key scientific and technical issues, detail the critical milestones of the project and its innovative outcomes, thereby demonstrating the scientific validity and advancement of the technical approach. The person in charge of the special project office introduced the overall situation of the key projects as well as the relevant process management documents. He focused on explaining the \"Detailed Rules (Trial) for the Management of Supporting Two Projects under the Same Guideline Direction by the High-Tech Research and Development Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology\", and shared experiences and insights gained from project management practices. It is hoped that the project team will align its thinking in line with the objectives of the **key research and development program, actively change its mindset during the project implementation process, and assume primary responsibility for project management ； Improve the project organization and management model, and enhance coordination among various tasks ； Focus on the key milestones of the project and highlight innovative achievements ； Strengthen the construction of scientific research integrity and establish a research management mechanism based on trust.
