Successful Commissioning of Ningbo Engineering’s Zhongjin Petrochemical Syngas-to-Hydrogen Project Author/Source: Date: 2018-12-21 Clicks: 46 The syngas-to-hydrogen project of Ningbo Zhongjin Petrochemical Co., Ltd., for which Ningbo Engineering Company was responsible for the engineering design, began with the preheating of the shift converter on November 23; by December 1, the entire process of the plant was operational and qualified hydrogen was produced, marking the successful commissioning of the syngas-to-hydrogen facility. Currently, the device is operating smoothly. This project is the first large-scale coal chemical design project for a private enterprise in the Ningbo area undertaken by Ningbo Engineering Company. The upstream section of the syngas hydrogen production unit utilizes a low-pressure water-coal slurry gasification process. The new hydrogen production unit built by the company includes six process units: sulfur-resistant shift reaction, MDEA desulfurization, VPSA carbon removal, compression, PSA hydrogen purification, and biological exhaust gas desulfurization. The total hydrogen production capacity of this unit is 108,000 Nm3/h. The notable characteristics of this project are its large scale, extremely large diameters for the equipment and pipelines, as well as a highly irregular and limited available floor space. This results in an overly compact layout of the equipment, posing significant difficulties for the design work of various disciplines, especially in terms of pipeline installation ; Moreover, the design timeline is short, with the feasibility study, preliminary design, and detailed design all proceeding simultaneously, which further increases the difficulty of the design process. The design staff at the project department conducted thorough research, carried out careful calculations, and worked overtime to ultimately complete this design task successfully. During the project construction phase, designers from various specialties frequently visit the site to monitor the progress and promptly address any issues that arise during construction ; During the project commissioning phase, the relevant design personnel were also on site to actively cooperate with the owner and provide guidance on operations, ensuring the successful first start-up of the installation.
