Recently, there have been reports stating that wet flue gas desulfurization using iron-based complex catalysts results in very little by-product salt; especially when this technology is used for desulfurization in the coking industry, no salt is generated at all. I’m not sure if this information is accurate. Does anyone among you who is familiar with this technology have anything to share on the topic? What kind of catalyst is it?
As far as I know, some factories in China have already been put into operation or plan to do so. I’m also paying attention to this matter right now
The desulfurization process using complexed iron, thanks to its high catalyst selectivity, enables almost no by-products to be formed during desulfurization, with all H2S being converted into elemental sulfur. Good chelated iron agents can achieve a desulfurization selectivity of over 99.99%.

Recently, we have also been in contact with chelated iron desulfurization agents; according to the manufacturer, no by-products are generated, and the desulfurization efficiency is quite high as well; As far as I know, several units have already been put into operation, and their performance is consistent with what the manufacturer reported. What puzzles me, however, is: what happens to that small amount of by-products in the end? Also, the catalyst consumption is significantly higher than that of conventional desulfurizers; so where does all this additional desulfurizer go in the end? Is it that it works very well at first, but as time of use increases, other problems start to emerge?
The use of complexed iron desulfurizers does not eliminate the formation of by-products; only small amounts of thiosulfates and sulfates are produced, while thiocyanates are still formed.
This technology was introduced in China because it generates less salt-rich waste and offers high desulfurization accuracy. There is no problem with resistance to high sulfur levels. Tangshan Lvyuan Environmental Protection has been working hard to implement this technology.
The main concern is the tower blockage; has that been resolved?
